Väistyvä puheenjohtaja Elina Lehtonen (Helsingin yliopisto) esitelmöi aiheesta: Naiset Suomen Geologisen Seuran historiassa – varjoista valoon
Keitä olivat Suomen Geologisen Seuran (SGS) ensimmäiset naisjäsenet? Millaisia rooleja naisilla on ollut seuran historiassa ja kuinka heidän panoksensa on huomioitu?
Seura perustettiin 140 vuotta sitten, ja naiset ovat osallistuneet sen toimintaan jo pitkään. Silti tutkimus seuran toiminnassa mukana olleista naisista on vähäistä, ja monet naiset ovat jääneet eri yhteyksissä melko näkymättömiksi. Tässä esitelmässä tarkastelen seuran historiaan vaikuttaneita naisia, millaisia rooleja he ovat täyttäneet sekä millaisia mahdollisuuksia ja rajoituksia heidän tutkimukseensa on liittynyt.
Esitelmä on suomeksi, mutta diat ovat englanniksi.

The outgoing chair of the society Elina Lehtonen (University of Helsinki) will present on: Women in the history of the Geological Society of Finland – from the shadows to the light
Who were the first female members of the Geological Society of Finland (SGS)? What kinds of roles have women played in the society’s history, and how has their contribution been recognized?
The society was founded 140 years ago, and women have been involved in its activities for a long time. However, research on the women active in the society is limited, and many women have remained relatively invisible in various contexts. In this presentation I examine the women who have influenced the society’s history, the roles they filled, and the opportunities and limitations associated with researching them.
The presentation will be given in Finnish, but the slides are in English.
