Helsinki City Reception at Banquet Hall (Icebreaker)
We have the pleasure to enjoy the hospitality of the Mayor of Helsinki City, Jussi Pajunen, on Wed at 18:00–18:30 at the Helsinki City Hall (Pohjoisesplanadi 11-13) which can be easily reached from the city center by walking. The event is currently full.
Sauna at the Cultural Centre Sofia
After the icebreaking party in the evening of 13 January there is a possibility to go to sauna at the Cultural Centre Sofia for 25 EUR. The maximum number of sauna participants is 80. There is a shared swimming pool for women and men, so do not forget to take swimming suits with you (towels are provided). Bus to Sofia leaves from the Senate Square (right by the CHURCH on the above map) at 19:30, and bus from Sofia leaves at 22:30.
Conference dinner
The conference dinner is served in Kulosaaren Casino on Thu, 14th Jan. The dinner is accompanied with musical entertainment performed by the Retuperän WBK. The Nordic Geoscientist Award winner will be revealed during the conference event.
Buses to Kulosaaren Casino (Hopeasalmenpolku 1) leave around 18 from Mikonkatu, right by the Central Railway Station, and from Kumpula campus. Buses back to the Center leave from the Casino at 23:00, 23:30, 24:00, and 00:30. Please sign up for your starting point (Mikonkatu/Kumpula campus) at the registration desk.
Laboratory tours
A combined tour to the Geofluids, Mineralogical, and Environmental laboratories guided by Thomas Wagner, Pasi Heikkilä, and Juhani Virkanen take place on Wed, 13th Jan at 15:00–15:30 and Thu, 14th Jan at 15:00–15:30. Sign up for a tour at the registration desk. Maximal number of participants/tour is 15 persons.
Finnish Museum of Natural History (LUOMUS)
Open hours (Thu, 14th Jan at 14:40–17:30) of the Geological Collections (rocks, minerals, fossils) of the museum. The exhibition is located at Kumpula Kartano (Kumpula Manor House) in the Kumpula Botanical Garden. The treasures of the collections are on display in historical cabinets. The curators Arto Luttinen and Björn Kröger are present.
