Venue

The conference takes place at the Kumpula campus, in the Physicum building located in Gustaf Hällströminkatu 2 A, Helsinki, about 4 kilometres to the north of the city centre. The campus houses the Faculty of Science of the University of Helsinki.

The main buildings of Kumpula Campus are shown below. Most of the conference activities will take place at Chemicum, Physicum, and Exactum. Department of geosciences and geography is found on the ground floor of Physicum. The geological collections of the Finnish Museum of Natural History are currently not open to the general public – the participants of the meeting will be informed about possible visiting hours.

The registration and information desks of the conference, as well as sponsor related and other exhibitions are all located in the lobby of the main entrance of Physicum. Poster sessions are held on the 1st (ground) floor of Exactum and Physicum and in the hallway connecting the two buildings. Toilets can be found on all floors. Floor maps can be found on the abstract volume and the program booklet.

Lunch

Three lunch coupons are included in the registration package. Lunch is served at restaurants/cafés at Physicum, Exactum, and Chemicum. You may choose freely from the menu, and the serving includes side salad, bread, butter, a drink glass (juice/milk), and water. Neither desert nor coffee are included. Soup lunch is served at the Physicum café (incl. bread, butter, water). Special diet lunch is served at the Chemicum cantine.

Coffee

Coffee during the coffee breaks is served in the hallways of Physicum, Exactum, and Chemicum, close to the lecture halls.

Public transport route suggestions between two given locations at a given time of day can be obtained at Journey planner or at Google Maps.

Tickets for public transport

Tickets can be bought on buses and trams from the driver. Tickets are valid for all means of public transportation (bus, tram, metro, regional trains, and the Suomenlinna/Sveaborg ferry). It may be convenient to buy a day ticket at the HSL (Helsinki Regional Transport Authority) service office at the Central Railway Station metro station. More infos can be found at the HSL site.

Public transport routes between hotspots

Airport–Helsinki: The buses 615 and 617, and P-train operate between the airport and the city center.

Airport–Kumpula: Several options, for example, (1) take the P-train to the Käpylä station and then the bus 56 to the campus (stop: Kumpulan kampus). (2) Take the P-train to the Malmi station and then the either 70T or 73 to the campus (stop: Kumpulan kampus).
